The Evolution of Philippine Entertainment Begins: 2014

The primary concept of the Philippine television has long been unmovable. For a long time, media and entertainment revolved around the traditional Philippine stories; these stories having the same characteristics. Namely, rich versus the poor, love between master and maid, orphans, and many others which you can find under your grandma's bed. However, after watching this 'certain' movie, I began to have hope for the Filipino's fictitious state of mind. Because of this movie, I said to myself "The wait is over. The Filipino's creative mind has set out again.".

For the title of this movie, well, the title says it all. However, the title talks about the story in a less spoiling way. It talks about the story with professionalism unlike amateur titles which can readily make you conclude the story. This movie that I'm talking about, this movie that could probably make a big-screen history in 2014, this movie which was written by Carmi Raymundo, and was brought to life by Olivia M. Lamasan, this movie is none other than "Starting Over Again" which brought together some of the most talented actors and actresses of our time, Iza Calzado, Piolo Pascual, and Toni Gonzaga. These three were able to portray such amazing characters that would surely leave a trace in your minds. Together with their co-actors and actresses, Joross Gamboa, Bryan Santos, Beauty Gonzales, Cai Cortez, and Edgar Allan Guzman, the movie became a huge success.

At the first part of the story, you won't easily realize the main conflict that's about to befall the main characters. Unlike the typical love story, this isn't about a third party, or distance. Heck, this movie isn't merely about acceptance. This movie is about something that affects us as a whole. This movie is about something that we cannot change or stop, that all we can do is follow so that we'll never be left behind. The conflict in this story is not just meant for the story. But the conflict is simply, "time". Isn't it surprising how something so simple can affect us so easily? How can we let something that affects us go to waste? Why do we take time for granted? These are just some of the questions that you can answer once you 'read' the movie. Did I type it correctly? Read the movie? Yes. That is what we should do. I have learned this from one of my best professors. I will not mention his name, because I think he would prefer that the 'noise' comes looking for him. Instead if I just blow a horn for him. Going back, the movie is a huge success. You haven't lived until you have seen and understand this movie.

Prayer VS. Tragedy

Indeed, you are right. Prayers may not be able to bring back the dead and things that have already been destroyed. And the rain might not stop no matter how much we wish for it to go away. Because on the first place, everything that comes down naturally has been brought about by God. But you are definitely wrong about your idea that a prayer will not solve anything. Because prayers are man's proof that they have faith in God.

We are very much aware that each and everyone of us shall perish and be one with the land. Have you ever thought that maybe this is just the natural way of declaring that our time is up? Have you ever thought of that? Face it or not. Soon in our lives, we shall return to Him and face whatever consequence we will have after the life we have lived. Prayers may not be able to bring back the dead, or put up that houses that have gone to waste, but prayers are able to uplift one's soul. Prayers give people something to look forward to. The most important thing during the time of need, is hope. Prayers exist in order to assure that people will not give up and their hopes of living a better life will remain. Don't think of God as a predictable being. He is the most intelligent and the most powerful above all. He knows what He is doing.

[I am not a full-fledged Christian, but I could not stand people who are stepping on others' belief. I am defending the Christian faith, because I for one also believe in something. And I do not want anyone to put a limit on my faith. Religion is something to respect. It is not something one should just blabber about.]

[I wrote this using my point of view if I were a Christian.]

Change the World

How the heck do you expect to run a country without a government?
The country will be crowded with immorality, sin, and crime if no one will moderate the condition of this country. Despite the presence of the law, some people still want to kill, steal, abuse, and rule over the minds of mankind. If people will not struggle to become righteous, then what will become of the future? The only key to perfection is by surrendering and giving up all your mortal desires. But since most people are not yet ready to do that, they have to deal with different challenges and hardships in their life. Only to find out that these obstacles are only caused by their own baby wishes.

So quit dropping off bullshits because nothing will happen. If men will not do something for the sake of the future, then you as an individual have the power to change something for yourself. But you can never ever mess with the lives of other people. This is based upon the eyes of the law, principle of science, and even different religions.

"No matter how gifted, you alone cannot change the world."

Star-Crossed Means by Fatima Ellaine M. Sisracon

Have you ever heard of term homosexual? Or third sex? How about lesbians, gays, and bisexuals? Sounds familiar, right? Most people define them as those who have sinned, psychologically and physiologically declined, and in worse cases define them are retards. Why is this so? This is due to the fact that scientifically and biblically speaking; there are only two sexual categories in existence: the male and the female. Since the old days, a family is known to be composed of one male, a female and their offspring. That is how most people see it. They always neglect the third sex. The fact that there are people, who have unique sexual orientations, means that there is the existence of the so-called third sex. Why is it so hard for people to accept? They are not forced or even encouraged to engage in a homosexual nuclear family, but they oppose too much. Some persons who have a straight sexual orientation by nature, hate seeing those of the opposite case. That is why I realized that it’s time for a change. We have the power to change this world if we want to.

I would be happy to vouch for President Obama’s approval and legalization of the “same sex marriage” in the United States. This is a good way of promoting equality within a nation. I do think that a nation that cannot even respect people of different nature is a weak nation. It is very important for a country to have equality in order to ensure justice and freedom among its citizens. If people can’t even control the desire to criticize someone, then they are nothing but low-life creatures that are destroying their own kind.

I do believe that the sole purpose of marriage is not merely to reproduce and assure the continuing generation of our specie. Marriage is a sacred process of uniting two souls who live for each other and have the idea of perishing together. In other words, marriage is for everybody. The holy matrimony is done with two people who dearly love each other regardless of their age, nationality, and even gender. You don’t need to be a guy to fall in love with a girl. And same goes for guys that don’t have to be girls in order to love a guy. The reason why we are given free-will is in order to choose who we want to marry, and the person we want to spend the rest of our lives with. Love comes and goes for each and every one of us. That is why, we need to learn to accept and understand others. Let us put ourselves in others’ shoes. Wouldn’t we be happy if we are to marry the one we love instead of marrying the one who should be with us? I think the third sex should be accepted and honored around the world. These people aren’t retarded or above normal. They are just being themselves. Would you call being yourself, abnormal? No. Because being you, means being a unique individual in this world who has his own preferences and happiness.

Let us stop the discrimination. Let us quit with the inequality among the members of the society. Give a fair chance to everyone. I hereby, lead the people of the advocacy to promote equality, justice and freedom in this government, as it was mentioned in the 1987 Philippine Constitution. Be proud of what we are. Be proud of what we can become. And be proud that we are able to advocate for Our Star-Crossed Means for ourselves and for our fellowmen.

Clepsydra in a Machine Empire by Fatima Ellaine M. Sisracon

During the twentieth century, many changes occurred in this world. And these changes per se, are those that people from the past could never even have imagined. Who would have thought that the dark ages would end and that the crusades would achieve something?, who would have predicted that the Holy Roman Empire would have such a great fall? Well, shame on the people who said that man cannot fly. Thanks to those who were brave enough to explore the depths of the sea, that we have discovered such amazing treasures hidden under the blue.

Indeed, men have immeasurable capabilities and the power to change this world. The past, present, and the future of this world lie on the hands of each and every person who are born, living, and even those who have perished. As time passed by, men have learned so many things. They were able to surpass every living creature, from soaring birds, running bison, surging sharks, and others far beyond our imagination. To start with, humans have put up a good use of their intelligence. Their way of living has become easy compared to others who have to fight and work for survival. However, what has become of our immeasurable capabilities? Because of the advancement of science, the modern world has fused itself with a machine, therefore, putting a limit to every person’s capabilities. Mankind has become too dependent on technology. Men aren’t meant to be like this! Men were born without satisfactions. Men are supposed to live their lives without contentment. We need to desire for more. We should give a great meaning to our existence. Our clepsydra has moved. We better get out of the machine empire.
